Welcome to Carrie & Jason's training and fundraising blog. This is where we're post
periodic reports about all the fun (and not-so-fun) stuff we're doing to get ready for
this summer's Breast Cancer 3-Day. Our goal isn't exactly to post every single training
walk we do, or to post every donation we receive. Rather, we'll be updating this
periodically with information, photos, and reports as we get around to it. So just
because we haven't posted in a week, doesn't mean we haven't walked this week. It
just means we haven't gotten around to posting to the web site.

Thursday, July 3, 2008 - Happy Independence Day everyone! Jason and Carrie
are closing in on meeting our fundraising minimums, but we still need your
support. If you haven't made a donation yet, please do so. Every penny we
raise brings us that much closer to a cure for breast cancer.

Hey, we've got a couple of fundraisers coming up this weekend! Saturday
morning, we'll be at the Walmart in Gardner soliciting donations - feel free to
stop by and say hello (and drop a couple of bucks in the bucket)! Also, we're
working on a fundraising event we'll be doing in conjunction with the
Peaceful Pines Family Campground in Templeton. We had planned to do that
event this weekend, also, but unfortunately the supplies we needed haven't
arrived yet. Look for that event next weekend!

The recent inclement weather has made it more difficult to get out and take
training walks. We're using the treadmill as often as possible, but Jason and
Carrie sure wish we'd get a day off when it doesn't thunderstorm! We don't
even mind rain, as long as there's no lightning with it.
Saturday, July 5, 2008 - We spent the morning this morning at Wal-Mart in
Gardner doing canning. It was a fun morning, but wasn't as successful as we
had hoped (it wasn't as busy as we'd have expected for July 5th). With the
weather the way it has been lately, though, we were very grateful for the
generousity of those people who were shopping this morning.
Monday, July 14, 2008 - The fundraiser at Peaceful Pines was rained out this
weekend, so we have tentatively postponed it to Labor Day weekend.
Thursday, July 27, 2008 - Training has become very challenging with the
weather we have been having the last few weeks. Rain isn't a big problem for
training, but thunderstorms definitely create a safety hazard. We are both
walking on the treadmill as much as possible, but we miss the sheer
pleasure of outdoor walking.
Saturday, August 2, 2008 - Jason and his friend Chris climbed Temple
Mountain in Temple, NH this afternoon. While not a long-distance walk, it
definitely was useful in building endurance, so Jason is choosing to call this
one a training walk anyways!
Thursday, August 14, 2008 - It's arrived!!! The day is here!!! This afternoon
Carrie and Jason board a bus along with the other members of the Cup
Crusaders to travel to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough for tomorrow
morning's opening ceremonies!
Monday, August 18, 2008 - It's over! We did it! What a great weekend! We had
an absolute blast. It wasn't all wine and roses, but it was a wonderful
experience. Carrie and Jason have already signed up to walk in 2009 (although
next year we are contemplating joining the Cup Crusaders' travelling team
and walking in one of the other walks around the U.S. For more details about
our walk this year, check out our 3-Day Diary for more details!
Thursday, August 21, 2008 - We just got back from our short vacation trip to
Binghamton, New York to visit our friend Lynn. We'd planned for the trip to be
restful - good R&R as they say. However, it turned out we walked or hiked
every day. It was a lot of fun, and actually it seems like keeping ourselves
mobile, while not that helpful for the feet, was definitely good for muscles.
We hiked a couple of miles in a big public wildlife refuge in the Binghamton
area called IBM Glen. That was a lot of fun. We also got to visit Taughannock
Falls near Ithaca, which was a fun hike in to view a beautiful gorge and
waterfall.
Monday, August 18, 2008 - Carrie visited the doctor this morning to have her
foot x-rayed. As isn't unusual for the 3-Day, she'd had some pain in her right
foot and was concerned it might be a stress fracture. The x-ray came back
negative, so it looks like it's just a soft tissue injury. Other than a few blisters
(for both of us), it looks like our injuries were kept to a minimum.
Monday, August 25, 2008 - Well, even though by Friday we both felt our feet
were feeling better, after being back at work for four days we can both
honestly say that our feet hurt. Fortunately, both Carrie & Jason have
tomorrow off, so we hope to recuperate more before being back to work on
Wednesday. Not that we're complaining (it isn't like we didn't expect this!) -
just trying to give the best reporting we can on the 3-Day experience. On the
plus side, the blisters have almost entirely healed (even Carrie's monster of
a blister under her toe is looking oh-so-much better than it was). And it
seems as if Carrie's injured foot is beginning to heal as well - it isn't hurting
near as much as it was a week ago.
Sunday, November 2, 2008 - Our annual Ski for a Cure fundraiser is now
underway. We've got lift tickets to some of New England's best mountains, so
enter the raffle now!
Saturday, November 1, 2008 - Just a note to say we are both doing well. With
school and work, there has not been enough time to keep this web site
updated, but we want to assure everyone that we are still here and we are
very much looking forward to the 2009 3-Day!
